Adaptation to Climate Impacts

Adaptation to climate impacts is becoming more prominent in discussions among scientists and diplomats –especially within initiatives that may offer both adaptation and mitigation benefits.
The Embassy of Vietnam to the Netherlands hosted some 55 representatives from 22 countries and 14 organizations on 4 December 2018 as they shared strategies on adaptation to climate change in the 8th meeting of The Hague Roundtable. “We can’t do it (adaptation) alone” was a theme in discussions that examined existing and potential cooperation at national, regional and global levels. Key points were made in cooperation over water resources in the region, and it was highlighted that there are not absolute sustainable strategies in agricultural and development adaptation. New approaches need to be flexible upon implementation, while taking into account multiple and changing environmental factors, as well as a various groups of stakeholders.
The Hague Roundtable on Climate & Security is an independent forum to promote international cooperation in adapting to climate risks to human well-being, sustainable development, peace and political stability. Created in 2015, participants from representatives of governments and organizations share information and strategies in adaptation regarding water resources, natural disasters, sea level rise, migration, potential conflict and stability of fragile states.
